Shahanshah Heritage Flag
by GEEV | Wearable Persian Art
This flag features the Imperial Emblem that represented royal authority during the Pahlavi era (1932–1979). The emblem was reserved exclusively for the Shahanshah, while the Empress and Crown Prince each bore their own distinct insignia.
Traditionally, these personal emblems were displayed against a vivid turquoise field, forming the royal standard. The turquoise background symbolized continuity, dignity, and deep cultural heritage, while the heraldic elements embodied sovereignty, strength, and legitimacy.
Beneath the emblem appears the historic national motto, “Mara dād farmud va khod dāvar ast” (“He commanded me to uphold justice, and He Himself is the Judge”). This verse is drawn from the Shahnameh by the legendary Persian poet Ferdowsi, appearing in the section describing Anushirvan’s letter to his officials. The inscription, written on a blue ribbon below the emblem, reflects the enduring ideal of justice as the foundation of kingship.
This design represents a fusion of ancient Persian literary heritage and modern state symbolism, expressing continuity between epic tradition and national identity.
